The Bud Ackerman Fund aims to carry on Bud's spirit of giving to our fellow human beings, with an emphasis on proven outcomes.

About Bud Ackerman
Bud Ackerman was born in New York City in 1926. He lived most of his life in New Jersey, with a cottage in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. He died in 2019 at the age of 92.

Bud was passionate about social justice. He had enormous empathy, and he was personally offended when he saw another human being treated cruelly or unfairly.
​
Bud was a chemist, inventor, and creative entrepreneur who valued scientific data-driven research. He also enjoyed opera, politics, and sports.
​
And Bud knew an important secret of life, that giving is a great source of happiness. With his big heart and playful, generous spirit, Bud found great pleasure in giving his time, attention, money, and wisdom to others.
Goals of the Bud Ackerman Fund

To award grants to non-profit organizations focused on human services and/or social change.

To demonstrate a strong preference for grants that focus on research-based and/or creative pilot projects to improve the quality, results and impacts of the services provided by the grantee organizations.

To assure that grant funds are utilized in the most effective manner, for example by encouraging the generation of matching funds and/or monitoring the cost-of-service delivery in relation to service impact.
