Board of Directors
Terri Ackerman, Chairman
Growing up as Bud’s oldest daughter, Terri was often inspired by Bud’s optimism, creativity, and passion for social justice. Following Bud’s death in 2019 at age 92, Terri founded the Bud Ackerman Foundation, in order to continue his legacy into the future. After a career in government finance and management, she has also volunteered on the Concord Select Board, the Sudbury Art Association, Communities for Restorative Justice, Domestic Violence Service Network, and Sudbury Valley Trustees.
Sandra Ackerman
The second child of Bud and Nancy Ackerman, Sandra likes to think she has inherited Bud’s sense of humor along with his strong sense of social justice. She is a freelance science writer, author of two books on brain research, and a contributing editor to American Scientist Magazine. She lives in North Carolina, where she has volunteered on numerous political campaigns and serves as a poll worker in state and federal elections.
Steve Ledoux
As Bud Ackerman’s son-in-law, Steve was always impressed by Bud’s generosity and commitment to social justice. Steve spent 41 years in municipal government management including serving as Town Manager in Williamstown, Sudbury, Westford, and most recently Acton, Massachusetts, where he retired in 2018. Steve holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University.

In addition to being a member of the Bud Ackerman Fund Board, Steve serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the North Central Massachusetts Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Minuteman Technical Vocational School District School Committee, and a volunteer Advocate for the Domestic Violence Service Network. He enjoys running, playing blues guitar and reading in his spare time.
Marc Holzer, Ph.D.
Marc is a second cousin to Bud and knew him for most of his life. Marc is a Distinguished Professor (Ret.) at the Institute of Public Service, Suffolk University, Boston. He is also Professor Emeritus and former Founding Dean of the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University-Newark. He is past President of the American Society for Public Administration, and is leading a project to establish the Virtual Museum of Public Service.
Barbara Russell
A long-time friend of Terri Ackerman, Barbara first met Bud during high school in New Jersey. She was moved by Bud's creativity, generosity, and vision. Barbara's career has focused on human services, particularly supporting refugees and immigrants, as well as survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Another thread has been playing therapeutic harp music for hospice patients and their families. She currently works at the Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst, MA as the Volunteer Coordinator and Therapeutic Musician.
